May 1, 2007

It's been a busy couple of weeks. Nathan is doing great. We've been able to get out and about - going for walks, getting him in his swing and going out to lunch and dinner. We've been using a rental van since the wreck, but bought a new one yesterday and it meets our needs just fine. As long as Nate is safe and can be transported comfortably, our requirements are met!

Since Nate's sore on his foot has healed, we've been able to get him in the stander again. We've been using the lift to transfer him into it and been keeping his bi-pap on also. He tolerates it very well and seems to like standing up like a big boy!

Nate is still in school and loving it! The teacher comes once a week and we go to school once a week. The girls just love him and the boys have started to come around and started talking to him and interacting with him. This has been so good for Nate. We can tell a change in him since he started going to school.

We changed nursing companies and today is our first day with Interim Healthcare. This decision was long overdue, as we have had problems with Specialized Home Nursing for a long time. This is going to be a major adjustment for Nathan and for us, as we will have mostly all new nurses, except for Jenny, our main night nurse. Yesterday was Sue's last day and it was very emotional. She has done so much for Nathan and been a big part of his life and ours as well. We will miss her terribly, but hope she will come visit often. We pray that his new nurses will take good care of Nate, love him and that he will love them. It is very difficult having someone in your house 16 hours a day and adjusting to someone new and trusting they will take care of your son. They really have to "mesh" well in our lifestyle. Of course, I am almost always here and take care of Nate as well. It will be awhile before I'm comfortable and confident enough to leave Nate alone with a new nurse. So, lots of changes around our house! And, of course, as soon as we get comfortable with all the new nurses, we'll have another big change and adjustment - a new baby in the house!!!

I would post some recent pics, but unfortunately, our camera is not downloading to the computer right now. Hopefully, we'll get it fixed and post some in the next couple of days.

Thanks for checking in!

Yea - I created an account so I can finally leave comments! We love to see Nate's pictures and read about everything that's going on way over there in Bixby. :) School sounds wonderful! I didn't realize you were changing nursing agencies, so we'll keep that in our prayers for a smooth transition. Sesame Street Live looked like a lot of fun! Hope to see you all soon. Please tell Nate we say hi and miss him.
Love,
Shelley & family
